VA PUBLISHES NEW VETERANS HANDBOOK


The latest edition of one of the federal government's all-time best-selling publica tions is now available from the U.S. Government Printing Office.

Published by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), "Federal Benefits for Veter ans and Dependents" has been revised to include changes in law for 1996.

The 98-page handbook describes VA benefits available to veterans and their depen dents, such as medical care, education, disability compensation, pension, life insurance, home loan guaranty, vocational rehabilitation and burial assistance. It also explains requirements for eligibility and outlines claims procedures.

The handbook, which sells this year for $3.25 a copy, also includes the latest infor mation on benefits for Persian Gulf veterans, homeless veterans and women veterans.

Listed by state are addresses and phone numbers of all VA benefits offices, medical centers, national cemeteries, counseling centers and other facilities.

In addition, the booklet also lists VA's toll-free numbers, including the number to reach the nearest benefits counselor: 1-800-827-1000. For those with computers, the booklet is available on VA's Home Page at the World Wide Web server address: http:/ /www.va.gov. VA also has a toll-free computer bulletin board called VA ONLINE, which can be reached at 1-800-USA-VETS (1-800-872-8387).

"Federal Benefits for Veterans and Dependents" now ranks second in total sales at the U.S. Government Printing Office. Including the 1995 edition, some 2.8 million copies have been sold through January 1996.
