Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northwest Florida

Become a Big Brother or Big Sister ....
and help change the life of a child!
No matter what your background, even if you were fortunate enough to grow up with two loving parents, you probably remember childhood feelings of insecurity and vulnerability. And for most of us, those were times when we turned to our parents or older brother and sister for support and guidance. Unfortunately, over 200 local children from single-parent homes are waiting for that special friend, someone who is willing to share just a little time, and willing to help a child through the sometimes difficult adolescent years. These children have turned to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northwest Florida for help.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters is based on the premise that youth, in order to reach their full potential as men and women, need the influence of mature, responsible, and responsive adults during their formative years. Big Brothers/Big Sisters service is designed to meet the needs of such youth through provision of an adult Big Brother or Big Sister volunteer.
How can you become a Big Brother or Big Sister?
- You must be willing to make a one year commitment to spend 3-7 hours a week in a special one-to-one friendship with a child.
- You must be 18 years of age.
- You must have a means of transportation and proof of Florida Insurance on your car.
- Even if you can't be a Big Brother or Big Sister at this time, you can still support a match through your financial contribution or volunteer in other ways such as helping with activities, fund raisers and mail-outs.
- Couple Matching--Married couples who meet the same requirements as above may be matched with a little brother!
What can you expect when you become a Big Brother or Big Sister?
- A Big Brothers/Big Sisters I.D. card that at this time will provide free YMCA membership, complimentary Happy Meals at McDonald's, and free admission to the Gulf Breeze Zoo.
- Complimentary tickets to sports games, plays, circus, fair, and other recreational activities.
- Enjoy program activities such as Christmas parties (Roy Jones, Jr. attended last years!), skating parties, chartered fishing trips, Picnics in the Park, Movie Day, tutoring sessions, and much more.
But most of all, you will enjoy the feeling that you receive from knowing that you are making a difference in a child's life, in your community, and in your future.
